Kool-Stop International Inc. werd opgericht in 1977, in Oregon (USA). Tijdens het maken van wrijvingscomponenten voor industriële toepassingen begon de eigenaar, Richard Everett, met het leveren van enkele componenten aan de fietsindustrie. Na het maken van het eerste fietsremblok met een intern frame en een luchtgekoeld koellichaam, begon het kleine garagebedrijf met het bouwen van een naam voor zichzelf in de fietsbranche. Door de internationale groei van de naam Kool-Stop is er een niche ontstaan in de markt voor hoogwaardige remblokken in alle takken van de fietsindustrie.
