Carepack Bike7 for thorough bike maintenance

By Tijmen Smit | Omnibikeparts.com Ambassador

The first signs of sunshine are here again, temperatures are rising and no doubt you can't wait for the first ride in shorts. After those endless rides inside, it is great to be able to ride outdoors again and make metres in the open air. But one thing still disappoints, there is still a lot of dirt and mud on the mostly still wet roads, with here and there even some remnants of road salt. Then you know... it's cleaning time again! Fortunately, I have been allowed to use Bike7's Carepack for a while now, which makes cleaning and maintenance a lot more fun!

Complete package for maintaining everything

But now, thankfully, no more. Bike 7 is a lifesaver! With the Carepack, cleaning the bike is a piece of cake. The Carepack contains everything you need to keep your bike in top condition. The package can be ordered in wax and oil versions and includes Chain Clean, Brake Cleaner, Protect, Clean, Rasta, two microfibre cloths and a bottle of wax or oil (depends on the choice of package).

Quick or thorough cleaning

Personally, I always choose between 2 types of cleaning. The quick or the thorough cleaning. For the quick one, depending on how dirty the bike is, I spray it down first. Then the 'fast clean' of Bike 7 over it. This can be compared to a kind of shaving foam for your bike. Let it soak in for a while to loosen the dirt. Then use a damp microfibre cloth (also included in the package) to remove the foam from your bike. Then I wipe the chain dry and lubricate it for the next ride and that's it!

Wheels and brakes

For the thorough cleaning, I choose to remove the wheels from the bike so that I can also give the rims and cassette the required attention. Again, this could be done with the 'fast clean' but personally I choose the regular 'clean'. You apply this in combination with the trigger that is provided, a kind of plant sprayer. I also use the 'brake cleaner'. These remove dirt and other mess from your disc brakes. And it seems like if you use the 'brake cleaner', squeaky brakes are a thing of the past.

Chain and casette

To get the chain and cassette properly clean, I always use the 'chain clean'. After application, you can see the dirt running off it. Great! Brush everything afterwards with the rasta cloth or the microfibre cloth and you're almost done. Because again, I blow or dry and lubricate the chain. This can be done with wax or with oil. This is really personal preference. With the wax, I feel it stays on longer, even in bad weather. The oil seems to lubricate better but then also sticks a bit more. But these differences are negligible.

If, like me, you have put a kind of routine into cleaning. Then you don't experience it as a threshold but more as a relaxing activity. A kind of extension of your cool-down. Make sure the bike is back in optimal condition the next ride. Because everyone knows, a clean bike, is a fast bike.
